Sandia Mexican Restaurant (106 S. Callaghan Road 8)
After having a torta, a tostada or a puffy taco, save room for a fresh fruit cup prepared at Sandia. If you’re craving something else, there is also a selection of ice cream, snacks and aguas frescas. With a mixed fruit bowl and an agua de sandia, you can’t go wrong.
Fruteria Las Gueras (4823 Evers Road)
A well-known place by San Antonians in the Bandera and Evers area. Stop by for a late-night snack, they’re open until 10 p.m. Besides delicious fruit and aguas frescas, they also sell mini asada tacos, corn in a cup, turkey legs, frito pie and other snacks.
El Paraiso de Mexico # 3 (6322 FM 1976 No. 126)
Located toward the city’s Northeast side, Paraiso is a tiny shop inside the Rittiman Pointe shopping center. There are so many items to choose from: mangonadas, picadillys, fruit cups, ice cream and more. It seems endless!
Fruteria La Mission (553 E. White)
Bring a date; the giant fruit cups are hard to finish alone. This Southside staple is popular and the line proves it. Fresh fruit of your choice with chile, chamoy and lime is worth the wait.
Las Mangonadas Ice Cream Shop (3018 Culebra Road)
Fresh fruit of your choice with chile, chamoy and lime is worth the wait. This place is known for its delicious mangonadas and cucumber shaved ice. The treat has pieces of cucumber and is topped with chile powder, chamoy and lucas. They also have a huge variety of paletas; look for the treats made with pieces of fresh fruit.
